2. Here is the procedure for updating the Firmware of the MD-380/390 DMR transceivers. The latest Firmware and Software for your radio can be downloaded directly from the TYT Website. After downloading the proper files for your radio, you will need to unzip them to a work folder. The file you need to execute is Upgrade.exe.

This page is a repository for codeplugs that you can use with amateur radios. These codeplugs are for the Norman, OK area. These are all provided ‘as is’, and you at your own risk.

Software programs are used to program these radios. Each codeplug title starts with the name of the program that is used to download that plug. Listed below are these programs, with links to that software.

CHIRP

This software is a free and open-source tool for programming your amateur radio. It supports a large number of manufacturers and models and provides a way to interface with multiple data sources and formats. That page lists the radios supported with the current build.

Connect Systems CS-750

This software is free and available from the Jerry and the people at Connect Systems. These radios can be either VHF, or UHF, (remember that Oklahoma DMR is all UHF), and will receive either analog or DMR signals.

Tytera MD380/390

Here is the most recent Tytera v1.37 software that can be used to program the MD-390 and MD-380 radios. These radios can be either VHF, or UHF, (remember that Oklahoma DMR is all UHF), and will receive either analog or DMR signals.

Radioddity GD-77 Version 3.2.2

Radioddity has a new version of software and firmware for its GD-77. Roger Clark has a great page describing the update here. Run the update program. Load the GD-77_V3.2.2.sgl file into the program. Power on the radio while holding the bottom two buttons on the left side of the radio. Then download that new firmware into the radio. You can either download your codeplug from the radio after the upgrade or grab our W5NOR Oklahoma Codeplug for the GD-77 Version 3.1.1. To download this file, you may need to right-click on the link and select “Save Link/Target As.” You’ll need to rename this file to SCARSGD-77311.dat. Remember that codeplugs are an excellent place to start, and you’ll need to update the Callsign and User ID with your information before you download it to your radio. And, for you, Radioddity GD-77 fans, Jason has a page of GD-77 mods for you to view.

Radioddity GD-77 Community CPS

Roger Clark has created a community or an open-source version of the code plug software for the GD-77. This beta software and more information are available on his website, here. If you have one of these radios, you can use this software to generate and up/download the codeplugs to your radio. This does not change the firmware on the radio. We have used this to generate code plugs that work well in the GD-77. This version of the software has fixed several bugs and organizes the data a bit differently so that you can get additional info on the radio. It’s all explained on his website. If you are a C# programmer, you can even download the code and compile it yourself.

Leixen 898

Leixen has some specific software to program their VV 898 radios, and it’s available to create and download their radios.

N0GSG Contact Manager

Tom Wheeler N0GSG has built a contact manager program that allows a person to edit codeplugs for DMR radios. This program will enable you to list and load contacts from Tytera, Any Tone, and CSI 700/701 radios. Inputs and outputs are CSV files. You can also download bulk records from DMR-MARC databases.

CPSProgrammer

DL5MCC has a piece of software called CPSProgrammer that allows a person to edit codeplugs for DMR radios. This software is supposed to currently work with Connect Systems, Hytera, and Tytera radios. This is a pretty technical piece of software and requires some effort to set up, but it may help you set up multiple radio types.

Tytera: MD 380 & MD 390 a la OKDMR

This code plug is for the UHF radio, updated 04/09/2017, is to be used with the Tytera software. This version adds the talkaround (Simplex) option for all channels, except Parrot. If you have trouble downloading this file, right-click on the link, and select “Save Target As” to save it to a place you can locate on your computer. It contains the DMR repeaters in the Oklahoma area, as of the Brandmeister conversion. Make sure you put your callsign and DMR ID into the codeplug before downloading it to the radio. Use this codeplug as a ‘good start’ for getting your radio up and running quickly, then take a look at the layout and customize as you see fit. If you see a version error message when you load this codeplug, you’ll need to update your TYT software to at least 1.37 (see above if you need a newer version). Windows 10 Drivers for Baofeng

Some of the newer Windows 10 drivers don’t perform well with some of the Baofeng USB cables. If this is an issue, you’ll not be able to connect to the radio. A known-good USB driver is version 3.2.0, and it’s available here for download. Install this, and you should be able to communicate with your radio. Also, make sure you’re using the right cable. TYT and Baofeng cables are not interchangeable.

TYT MD380 Toolz Firmware

There’s an experimental firmware available for the MD380/MD390 radios written by KG5RKI. You can use it to gain additional display functions. Instructions for obtaining the firmware loader and the current version of the firmware are available here. Install this, and you’ll gain some neat features. Most notably, you’ll be able to select your talkgroup directly from the keypad of your radio. YMMV, but it’s working well for us, and you can reinstall the factory firmware if you’d like to revert to the TYT way.

EditCP – Codeplug Editor for .RDT files

Dale Farnsworth has developed a program for Windows and Linux that he calls EditCP. This codeplug editor can be downloaded from his site here. This program is similar in purpose to the TyteraMD380 CPS program. It provides several features that the CPS lacks.

This codeplug editor supports the Tytera MD-380, MD-390, MD-2017, MD-UV380, MD-UV390, and MD-2017, the Alinco DJ-MD40, the Retevis RT3, RT3-G, RT3S, and RT82 radios. Support for additional radio models is likely but is not scheduled at this time.

Connect Systems CS-750

Use this code plug is for the UHF radio with the Connect Systems software. This codeplug is updated for the Brandmeister conversion. It contains the DMR repeaters in the Oklahoma area. Make sure you put your callsign and DMR ID into the codeplug before downloading it to the radio. Use this codeplug as a ‘good start’ for getting your radio up and running quickly, then take a look at the layout and customize as you see fit. Mark Kleine N5HZR generated this codeplug, and it contains the entire database as of November 8, 2016.

CHIRP: Leixen 898S

This code plug is to be used with the CHIRP software and contains about 200 VHF and UHF channels from the central Oklahoma area. There are also many channels from the Tulsa, OK, and the Dallas, TX area. Loren White KE5DZE generated this codeplug.
