The basic process to open a port is:

Step 1

It is important to setup a static ip address in the device that you are forwarding a port to. This ensures that your ports will remain open even after your device reboots.

After setting up a static ip address on your devices you need to login to your router.

Step 2

Now we are going to login to your Dlink DIR-601 router. Your router has a web interface, so you will login to it using your web browser.This can be either Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Edge. It usually does not matter which browser you choose to use.

Open up your web browser and find the address bar. It should look something like this:

In the picture above the address bar has 192.168.0.1 in it. Just replace all of that with the IP address of your Dlink DIR-601 router.Your router's IP address can also be refered to as your computer's default gateway.

By default the IP address is set to: 192.168.0.1

After entering the IP address of your router you can simply press enter. If all goes well you will see the following screen:

Step 3

Now we need to find the port forwarding section in your router. Here's how you do it. Starting from the first page in your router:

Click the Advanced button near the top of the page.

Click the Port Forwarding button near the left of the page.

Create a name for this forward and put it in the Name box. The name is only used as a reminder and has no effect on the port forward.

Enter the IP address that you want to forward these ports to in the IP Address box. You can enter either the IP address of your computer or the IP address of another computer or device on your network.

These entries are protocol specific. If the ports you are forwarding need to be forwarded using the TCP protocol, you should enterthose ports into the TCP section. If the ports you are forwarding need to be forwarded with the UDP protocol, you should enter those ports into theudp section.

In the TCP or UDP box type the ports to forward.

Your ports can be entered as a list 23,24,25, a range 500-600, or a combination of both 23,45,500-600.

Use the Schedule dropdown box to choose Always.

Use the Inbound Filter dropdown box to select Allow All.

When you're finished, click Save Settings near the top of the screen to save your changes.
