  • We're on the Adobe Help Forums every day and regularly see users posting queries like 'Can't install Photoshop from the Creative Cloud' or 'CC 2021 won't download,' or 'my product updates aren't working'. It could be for the free trials or for the full paid versions. Often the issue is related to one or the other download managers (DLM) that Adobe uses to deliver its software install­ers.
  • The updater is registered with the system service launchd. Instructions to completely disable this can be found on The real way to disable Adobe Updater from your Mac OS X: Open a Terminal window and type the following commands.
  • UpdaterStartupUtility.exe file information UpdaterStartupUtility.exe process in Windows Task Manager. The process known as Adobe Updater Startup Utility belongs to software Adobe Updater Startup Utility by Adobe Systems (www.adobe.com). Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu, then click Software Update to check for updates. If any updates are available, click the Update Now button to install them. Or click “More info” to see details about each update and select specific updates to install.

Utility

If your computer is connected to the internet, then you can change the Adobe Updater preferences to not check for updates.

To Change the Adobe Updater preferences, do the following:

  1. Start the AdobeUpdater.exe application from ...Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeUpdater 5
  2. When the update screen appears, click the Preferences button
  3. Uncheck the Automatically Check for updates checkbox and click OK

If your computer does not have an internet connection, then you can manually edit the AdobeUpdaterPreferences.dat file.

To manually edit the AdobeUpdaterPreferences.dat file, do the following:

  1. Start the AdobeUpdater.exe application from ...Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeUpdater 5
  2. When the Adobe Updater dialog appears stating that there is no Internet connection, click Cancel
  3. Navigate to ...Documents and Settings[username]Local SettingsApplication DataAdobeUpdater5 on Windows XP or ...[username]AppDataLocalAdobeUpdater5 on Vista and open AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat in Notepad.
  4. If the <AutoCheck>1</AutoCheck> tag already exists, then change the value from 1 to 0. Otherwise, add the line <AutoCheck>0</AutoCheck> anywhere between the <AdobeUpdater></AdobeUpdater> tags.

If your computer is connected to the internet, then you can change the Adobe Updater preferences to not check for updates.

  1. Start the Adobe Updater application from /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/Adobe Updater5/.
  2. When the update screen appears, click the Preferences link.
  3. Uncheck the Automatically Check for updates checkbox and click OK.

  1. Start the Adobe Updater application from /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities/Adobe Updater5/.

  3. Navigate to '/Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Updater5/' and open the AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file in TextEdit.
  4. If the <AutoCheck>1</AutoCheck> tag already exists, then change the value from 1 to 0. Otherwise, add the line <AutoCheck>0</AutoCheck> anywhere between the <AdobeUpdater></AdobeUpdater> tags.
